Carl Conradi - 2008
Carl graduated from the University of Alberta in April 2007, with an
Honours BA in Political Science and a minor in Middle Eastern and African
Studies. During his undergraduate career, Carl had the opportunity to
participate in several mediation-oriented symposia, including the School
for International Training's inaugural symposium in Africa's Lake Victoria
basin, and the International Institute for Mediation and Conflict
Resolution's symposium in Cyprus. He also volunteered at a child soldier
rehabilitation centre in Northern Uganda. Upon graduating, Carl joined the
inaugural Tour d'Afrique Silk Route bicycling expedition from Istanbul to
Beijing and spent several months studying Arabic in Cairo. Carl will be
spending his fellowship year studying the intersection of mediation
efforts and peace education curricula with disarmament, demobilization and
reintegration (DDR) processes, specifically oriented towards children.
His first placement will be with the Academy for Peace and Development in
Hargeisa, Somalia, and his second will be with the Child Soldiers
Initiative, which will entail a series of consultations with various UN
peacekeeping operations around Africa.
