Insight Fellowship Application Form

Apply

All completed applications submitted by the application deadline will be reviewed by Insight Collaborative. Finalists will be invited to Boston for a Finalists Weekend in March consisting of an in-person interview, dinner, and a half-day negotiation workshop. The next application deadline is December 16, 2008.

Please review the expectations described below before submitting an application.

Fellows are encouraged to seek placements in locations they have not visited frequently, and in places which are substantially dissimilar to their home ground.

Self-reflection and self-knowledge are essential to many forms of conflict management, and to all forms of effective global citizenship. Full immersion in unfamiliar contexts without the prospect of reconnecting to the familiar in the near future often generates otherwise unattainable insights.  This immersion also pushes Fellows to seek connections with new people and places.  At the same time, the Insight Collaborative and Fellows need to be sensitive to the impact of time away from friends and family on the Fellow and his or her personal relationships.

With this in mind, Insight Collaborative asks Fellows to embrace the philosophy described in this paragraph and adhere to the following contact guidelines, which are to be interpreted and applied on a case by case basis.  Fellows should inform their friends and family of these expectations.

  • Fellows may plan up to 3 points of contact of up to 1 week in length
each with friends or family during their Fellowship year.
  • Contact with friends and family through phone or internet is expected and recommended.  We simply ask Fellows to be mindful of the impact the frequency of such contact has on their experiences.  Consistent contact with Insight Collaborative is required for safety reasons.
  • After the Boston placement, Fellows may not return home or to their
country of origin during the Fellowship year, except as otherwise
provided in these guidelines, or in cases of extraordinary circumstances such as an emergency, a once in a lifetime event, etc.
  • Each Fellow's time in Boston constitutes the first placement and
guidelines regarding travel home or to be in familiar places with
familiar people still apply.  These guidelines, however, will be
interpreted more broadly during the Boston placement with respect to visits from friends and family.
  • Fellows shall communicate as early as practical to Insight
Collaborative any plans to spend time with friends and family during the Fellowship year.
